The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) team has been providing Advisory Opinion to the internal and external customers for many years, and it becomes the focal point of Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Consequently, implementing Office 365 SharePoint on the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) network and utilizing its functionality across the board have taken the team to the next level of collaboration using modern technology and highly skilled workforce.

Additionally, users, who are part of the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) and Advisory Opinion (AO) team have access to the SharePoint portal. The Advisory Opinion project is enabling everyone including Stakeholders (internal and external customers) to submit requests through the SharePoint online form. This provides a great tool to the internal users for receiving and managing requests for Advisory Opinion on the various subject matter, which improves the efficiency and workload. Also, the AO SharePoint online portal brings users together to communicate effectively to one another and facilitate the following key knowledge operations capabilities, such as Workflow Management, Content Management, Knowledge Management, Collaboration, and Data Presentation.

Knowledge sharing increases productivity and offers the following:

  • Provides a consistent method of presenting information that is accessible to the BIS community, which provides a consistent user experience
  • Innovative solutions that empower the BIS customers with functionalities that include but are not limited to team enterprise messaging, secure document sharing, and portfolio management. The innovative functionality shall reduce the cost of ownership, rapid scaling, and reduce operational cost
  • Security controls in the cloud network that meet and exceed the security requirements
  • BIS, a centralized platform to consolidate, integrate, and secure BIS distributed information systems.  This centralized platform shall allow seamless collaboration between projects and operational and functional teams as well that ensures enhanced security, confidentiality, and compliance
  • Software as a Service (SaaS) solution that empowers the users’ community to independently maintain information and improve internal BIS business processes with minimum administrative oversight
